Designing Sensory Experiences in Hybrid Spaces: The Design–Art–Technology Triad
This article presents advances from the doctoral thesis entitled: Intertwining design, art and technology: a semiotic exploration of objects through hybrid spaces. Linking design, art and technology, this research-creation proposes an immersive, sensory and hybrid experience that merges physical and virtual spaces, using technologies such as virtual and mixed reality under the name of immersive infographics, to understand the functional, aesthetic and semantic values of objects. An initial experiment of a hybrid environment is explained, combining two PhD theses combining art, philosophy, design and technology, where virtual reality was tested in order to understand the advantages and disadvantages of creating sensory experiences using technology. Impressions of the technology, while positive, have technical drawbacks, but the active participation of people in the environment created responds positively to future experimentation linked to the thesis.
